Library 2.0

While reading through the five perspectives on Library 2.0 the entry entitled Away from the Icebergs stood out to me because of its challenge to libraries to progress with the times of the information age.

One of the worst things and organism can do, whether that be a human being or an organization, is to become comfortable and stagnant in the traditionally way of doing things and fail to adapt to their evolving environment around them. This period of time is known as the information age because virtually any and all information is so easily accessible through the internet and other forms of media. While the library was once seen as a place with mostly printed information, it is now evolving into a source for all sources of information. Learn and Play is providing CML librarians the privilege opportunity to grow in our efforts to be able to give our patrons several paths to information.

Our CML website also provides a plethora of resources that aids our patrons in finding the information they need in more places then google and wikipedia. These resources provides the customer with more reliable options and causes them to utilize the library as their main source of information. We are the #1 library in the U.S. for a reason and this is mainly because of our dedication to providing more ways of accessing information through our library services.

While we have evolved more than most libraries there still remains a challenge to go even further and transition from obsolete sources of information to cutting edge sources. Our collection development process of ridding the system of books that are decades old and out of shape is a significant step in this process.

How can we further wean ourselves off of our dependency on the obsolete and rely more on the new wave of searching for information?

del.icio.us

I think del.icio.us will be very useful for me. I bookmark a lot of pages that i visit frequently or plan to visit again. I will use del.icio.us to put all of my frequnted websites that I hvae bookmarked on del.icio.us. It is kind of inconvenient to come to work and have to type the web address of the website I have book marked on my home computer but now I don't have to wast time doing that anymore. However, I will not use to to find other popular tags and anyone else bookmarked pages on a subject. I will just use it to bookmark all of my pages.

Finding Feeds

I just checked out technorati to locate a library related news feed entitled Library web chic. I just searched for "library" in the search field and looked through some of the news feeds that came back. Most of them were uninteresting to me so I just picked the lesser of two evils. Library Web Chich talks about how she is using different resources to better equip her library. She dicussed how she used Drupal to migrarte her library website into, Wordpress, iPhone, and Worldcat.

Twitter

I JUST FINISHED TRYING OUT TWITTER! I FIRST WATCED A YOU TUBE VIDEO EXPLAINING TO ME WHAT TWITTER WAS BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA OF WHAT IT WAS BEFORE. I HADN'T EVEN HEARD ABOUT IT BEFORE LEARN AND PLAY. I OPENED UP MY ACCOUNT TODAY AND POSTED THREE TWEETS SAYING WHAT I WAS DOING AT THE TIME. I THEN FOUND A FRINED THAT WAS IN MY EMAIL CONTACTS ON TWITTER. I FOLLWED THEIR TWEETS AND THEN DECIDED AGAINST IT SO AS OF RIGHT NOW I AM JUST FOLLOWING LEARN AND PLAY. I WILL PROBABLY ALSO FOLLOW SOME OF MY CO-WORKERS HERE AT THE LIVINGSTON BRANCH.

I DID NOT LIKE MICRO-BLOGGING BECAUSE IT SEEMS UNINTERESTING AND A WASTE OF TIME TO POST WHAT EVERY UNIMPORTANT THING I AM DOING OR TO FOLLOW WHAT SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING.

LIBRARIES CAN USE TWITTER TO STAY CONNECTED TO CO-WORKERS AND SOCIALLY INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER.

HONESTLY I DON'T FIND ANY USE FOR TWITTER BUT IF I HAD TO USE IT I WOULD USE IT TO FOLLOW CONVERSATIONS ON MY FAVORITE SUBJECTS LIKE OHIO STATE FOOTBALL, CLEVELAND CAVALIERS, AND HIP HOP.

Library Thing

I FOUND LIBRARY THING VERY HELPFUL IN THAT I COULD SEE OTHER USERS WHO HAD THE SAME BOOKS LISTED AND GET RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SIMILAR BOOKS. I ADDED THE FIVE BOOKS I RECENTLY READ BUT I WILL TRY TO REMEBER OTHER BOOKS I HAVE READ IN THE PAST SO I CAN ADD THEM AS WELL. I PLAN TO ALSO CREAT A WISH LIST OF BOOKS I WOULD LIKE TO READ.

OHIO SPORTS-WE THE BEST

FIRST OF ALL, HELLO AND WELCOME TO MY BLOG! O.H.10 (PRONOUNCEd oh ach ten) IS ANOTHER WAY OF SPELLING OHIO. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE OHIO SPORTS. I STRONGLY FEEL AS IF YOU ARE A SPORTS FAN FROM OHIO OR ANY OTHER STATE YOU ARE OBLIGATED TO BE SOLD OUT TO THE TEAMS IN OHIO OR YOUR STATES SPORTS TEAMS. NOW SINCE OSU FOOTBALL IS BEGINNING IN 9 DAYS LETS START WITH MY BELOVED BUCKS. I AM WELL AWARE OF WHAT ALL THE SPORTS COMMENTATORS AND SPECTACLES ARE SAYING ABOUT THE 08-09 OSU FOOTBALL TEAM THAT WE WON'T BE ABLE TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR BECAUSE WE HAVE LOST IT THE LAST TWO YEARS. LET ME SAY THAT THE REASON WE HAVE LOST THE LAST TWO YEARS IS FOR ONE MAIN REASON: BECAUSE OF THE PERFORMANCES OF OUR QUARTERBACKS. THE PERFORMANCE OF TROY SMITH WAS LESS THAN PAR BECAUSE HE WAS SO FOCUSED ON THE HEISMAN TROPHY THAT HE DIDN'T PUT IN THE DEDICATION TO THE TEAM THAT HE NEEDED TO, SO HE SHOWED UP OVERWEIGHT AND UNPREPARED FOR FLORIDA DEFENSE. THEREFORE WE LOST THE 06-07 CHAMPIONSHIP. NOW ONTO TOOD BEOCKMAN. I THINK HE IS GARBAGE AND IS ONLY A SECOND STRING QUARTERBACK. HE THREW 14 INTERCEPTIONS LAST SEASON. THAT MEANS HE THREW AN INTERCEPTION EVERY GAME PLUS ONE MORE FOR THE HELL OF IT. WE NEED SOME REAL FIRE POWER AND DEDICATION IN OUR QUARTERBACKS TO WIN THIS YEAR. I BELIEVE JIM TRESSELL HAS BEOCKMAN IN LINE NOW AND THAT THE ADDITION OF PRYOR WILL BE EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL. MY ONLY WORRY IS THAT BEOCKMAN MAY BE BETTER THAN LAST YEAR BUT STILL NOT EXPLOSIVE AND THAT PRYOR MAY NOT BE EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO STEP UP AND LEAD. OUR DEFENSE WILL BE ON POINT BECAUSE MOST OF THEM RETURNED WITH A NEW VENGENCE AND NOW IT IS UP TO OUR OFFENSE TO RUN OVER THE TOUGHEST DEFENSES. I PREDICT A CHAMPIONSHIP IN JAN 09.
